Barclays’ Natural Resources PE Shop Inks Deal with Qatar
Barclays has a unique, long-term relationship with investment entities in Qatar; one of the funds is a major shareholder of Barclays. The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) is banking on commodities as an attractive asset class. By 2016 or 2017, the QIA expects a supply-demand gap in commodities. Qatar Holding has gradually been increasing ownership in London-listed Xstrata. In fact, a number of sovereign wealth investors want to access natural resources directly in companies, through co-investments, or through top-tier specialist private equity funds. Founded in 2006, Barclays Natural Resource Investments (BNRI) is a global private equity firm focused on natural resource investment opportunities. It is a division of Barclays Bank Plc.
BNRI has US$ 2.1 billion committed in 22 portfolio companies and has offices across the world, including in the Gulf.
