Brief Look into Tanzania’s National Social Security Fund
Tanzania’s National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is the largest public investment fund in the country. It had 550,000 members in March and is expected to grow to 2.2 trillion Tanzanian shillings (US$ 1.3 billion) in size. This growth can be attributed to a combination of investment income and increased contributions from members.
Tanzania’s NSSF was created by their parliament in 1997 to replace National Provident Fund. The NSSF is a compulsory scheme that is financed through contributions at the rate of 20% of employee’s salary.[Content protected for Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute Standard subscribers only.
