The Scottish Sovereign Wealth Fund

The North Sea is full of economic blessings and treasure. The current First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond recently announced that the Scottish independence campaign will be launched in May 2012. Mr. Salmond further added an announcement of his ambition to create a sovereign wealth fund from oil and gas revenues in an independent Scotland.

In a speech at the London School of Economics, Mr. Salmond said, “we have 25% of Europe’s tidal power potential, 25% of its offshore wind potential and 10% of its wave power potential – not bad for a nation with less than 1% of Europe’s population. Scotland has a huge competitive advantage.
