Summary
The National Fund of the Republic of Kazakhstan was created in August 2000 as a stabilization fund that ensures the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be stable against the price swings of oil, gas and metals. It was also created as a future fund to ensure stable social and economic development of the country. The bank develops the investment strategies and selects the external managers for a portion of the fund’s assets.

Background
In 2000, the Kazakhstan president issued a decree No. 402 to create the national fund. In 2004, the Kazakhstan president created a management council to advised the fund.
