Tharman Shanmugaratnam to Become Deputy Chair of GIC

Singapore’s Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat was appointed to become Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, effective May 1, 2019. Heng Swee Keat will retain his financial post. The 57-year-old Heng Swee Keat could be the ruling People’s Action Party’s choice for prime minister after the general elections.
Tharman Shanmugaratnam is stepping down as Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore. The 62-year-old Tharman Shanmugaratnam will become a Senior Minister in the Singapore Cabinet. He will also become Deputy Chairman of GIC Private Limited. Tharman Shanmugaratnam serves as a GIC board director since May 2004 and chairman of the investment strategies committee since July 2011, according to the statement by the GIC.
