$124 Billion Pledge for the New Silk Road
On May 14th, 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged US$ 124 billion for his new Silk Road plan, luring more countries and corporations into its geopolitical clout. Also known as the One Belt, One Road program, which was revealed in 2013, the New Silk Road looks to expand beyond the interconnectedness of Asia and Europe.
The two-day Belt and Road Forum was held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, which included high-powered figures from Turkey, United States, Russia, Canada, World Bank and other countries. At the conference, the new Silk Road Plan was revealed and its spending commitments.
