ALM Pioneer Guus Boender Passes

Guus Boender was a co-founder of Ortec and became CEO of Ortec Finance in 1981. Boender has passed away on Monday morning after a battle with cancer.

Boender was well internationally-recognized for his work and dedication in the asset-liability management (ALM) space. Ortec worked on a number of asset liability management strategies with organizations like, the Ontario Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (OMERS), and PUBLICA, Switzerland’s largest pension provider and CERN Pension Fund. He served as a professor of asset liability management (ALM) at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.

Ortec Finance chief executive Ton van Welie said in a statement posted yesterday on the company’s website: “Guus has kept on working as much as possible and we even saw him return to his beloved Ortec Finance for a few hours per week at the start of this summer. Despite his illness, he acted as we all expected, full of enthusiastic plans and ideas. In August these plans were brutally halted as the disease took a turn for the worse, with further treatment being ineffective.”
