CPPIB’s Lessons from Noble Environmental Power

Being too early to the party is never a good thing. The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), through CPP Investment Board (USRE II) Inc., in 2008 jumped on board to invest in a major wind farm operator. The pension acquired a reported 14% stake in Noble Environmental Power LLC (Nobel Power), an owner and operator of windparks and a majority, based out of Connecticut. Founded in 2004, Noble Power was making inroads quickly across parts of upstate New York. Noble Power planned to go public in 2008.
