A General Market Call

United Kingdom – growth strong going forward, possibly up to 3% 2014. Need for significant institutional reform of trade side organisations to match the renewed Asia export focus of UK government.

United States – maintain growth on the back of cheap energy boosting industrial competitiveness and a resurgent Wall Street. National policy dilemmas will need to be solved to improve confidence long term. Arguably commentators are missing the point about the Pivot East; it’s not about tanks and ships or even trade deals; it’s about keeping China caged in by keeping the rest of Asia thinking American in politics, believing American on security and speaking American in business.
