LOVING INDIA: CPPIB Buys Stake in Kotak Mahindra Bank


Whether in real estate or financial services, Canadian asset owners, such as the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), are mimicking their Singaporean sovereign wealth brethren by moving capital into India. According to the Sovereign Wealth Fund Transaction Database, which includes large pension investors, public institutional investors directly invested US$ 5.399 billion into India. This is compared to US$ 3.396 billion in calendar year 2014. For the first quarter of 2016, public institutional investors have spent directly US$ 834.6 million into India so far.
