The S&P Long-Term Value Creation (LTVC) Global Index was formed by a recommendation of the Focusing Capital on the Long Term Initiative (FCLT), founded by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) and consultancy firm McKinsey in 2013. Index provider S&P Dow Jones Indices sees that more institutional investors, such as pensions and sovereign funds were looking for a benchmark that embraced long-termism. CPPIB’s Wiseman contends the index would provide an appropriate benchmark and send a clear signal to company management that public funds focus on long-term value. The index provider says the index is made up of companies that have been able to manage the long-term economic and governance risks and opportunities by focusing on a long-term strategy. The companies in the index are more likely to maintain a competitive advantage and thereby sustain stakeholder value. It is made up of 246 companies.
