Blackstone Snags Firm Stake in Leonard Green & Partners

The Blackstone Group LP, through one of its funds called Blackstone Strategic Capital Holdings, acquired a less than 15% minority stake in private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners. Blackstone was impressed with Leonard Green’s vast experience in the U.S. consumer market. Blackstone Strategic Capital Holdings is a US$ 3.3 billion warchest of capital targeting alternative asset managers. Blackstone Strategic Capital Holdings owns stakes in firms such as Solus Alternative Asset Management, Magnetar Capital Partners and
Marathon Asset Management.

Mark E. Van Der Weide Named General Counsel at Fed

The U.S. Federal Reserve hired Mark E. Van Der Weide as general counsel. He is the replacement for Scott G. Alvarez who is retiring from the central bank, after a 36-year career. Van Der Weide has been with the U.S. Federal Reserve since 1998. He is currently Deputy Director of the Division of Supervision and Regulation at the U.S. Federal Reserve.
