NOTE:
On March 31, 2016, there was a reorganization of the operations of the Fondo Strategico Italiano. Shareholders of FSI approved to form a new corporate organization called CDP Equity SpA. CDP Equity’s portfolio include Ansaldo Energia, Metroweb, Saipem and SIA per change.

In addition, FSI SGR SpA was also formed in order to support the growth plans of medium and large companies with significant prospects for development, including by attracting growth capital from private investors in Italy and abroad. The company, which is currently 100% owned by CDP, will seek out other shareholders and management as investors (even reducing CDP’s interest below 50%).

Summary

The fund will support the growth of Italian strategic companies to compete globally. FSI’s activity is restricted to healthy and profitable Italian businesses, with solid growth prospects, in need of capital injection to enlarge their business and be competitive on a global scale.

Background on Fondo Strategico Italiano
In late July 2011, the government of Italy launched a €4 billion state-backed strategic development sovereign wealth fund. The fund’s purpose is to invest in strategic Italian companies and assets. It is named Fondo Strategico Italiano (FSI) or the Italian Strategic Fund.

The initial capitalization was totaled to be €1 billion. 90% contributed by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and 10% from Fintecna. The CDP is ready to inject a total amount of €4 billion.
