Women’s Retirement Age in Saudi Arabia is Raised to 60

Saudi Arabia’s General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) disclosed an August 1, 2019, amendment to article 38 of the social insurance system. This amendment sets the retirement age of both men and women to 60 years. The retirement age for women was previously 55 years. A study by King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) showed that regards to the workforce, Saudi women participation is estimated at approximately 20% versus 63% for men. Other new amendments include barring employers from firing or warning an employee during pregnancy or maternity leave. Another amendment was added to treat all employees as equal, regardless of gender, disability, or age.
