Expansion Coming For South African Military Pensions

A Portfolio Committee on Defense and Military Veterans is expecting The Department of Military Veterans to formalize in a report the new regulations regarding military veterans pension benefits. Defense and Military Veterans Minister Thandi Modise has already approved them.
Previously, Transkei, Bophuthatswana Venda and Ciskei (TBVC) soldiers were not covered. Minister Kobus Marais said: “I and my colleague Maliyakhe Shelembe are obviously delighted at this outcome. Sufficient funds to pay the pensions were provided as from 1 April this year for about five thousand verified and properly registered military veterans. On 20 September Minister Modise committed to backdating payments to 1 April.”
More applicants are expected.
