Yellen: U.S. “Can And Must” Finance Ukraine, Israel

In a recent interview by Wilf Frost, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expressed support for Ukraine and Israel. Yellen said the U.S. can fund both as needed: “We do need to come up with funds, both for Israel and for Ukraine. This is a priority.” The U.S. has spent US$ 77 billion on Ukraine so far.

Yellen doubled down on her comments, saying: “America can certainly afford to stand with Israel and to support Israel’s military needs and we also can and must support Ukraine in its struggle against Russia.” President Biden is currently planning a trip to Israel to boost Israeli morale and also to discourage the country from tactics that may impact civilians.

Some in government disagree with Yellen’s confidence in U.S. spending power, such as Senator John Thune. Thune says “Out of control government spending must end.” The National Debt Clock says the U.S. debt has surpassed US$ 33.5 trillion. This is a liability of US$ 579,000 per U.S. citizen, which represents almost all of the assets of the citizens of the country. Assets of individuals are listed at US$ 589,000 per citizen.
