Illinois TRS Names New Deputy CIO

Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) has named Ghiané Jones Deputy Chief Investment Officer with responsibilities of co-directing the supervision of staff, operations, accounting, control, performance, and risk management. The hire date was October 10. TRS says: “The role is an important new addition to the TRS investment leadership team. Jones, who lives in Chicago, will be based in and manage TRS’s newly established Chicago office.”

TRS Executive Director and Chief Investment Officer Stan Rupnik said of the promotion: “Ghiané has a strong background in asset allocation, knows the challenges facing Illinois public plans well, and has worked on and is committed to diversity programs such as ours. I look forward to working with her and adding her leadership and experience within our investment program.”

For the past six years, Jones has been a Managing Principal, Investment Consultant at Meketa Investment Group in Chicago. She came over from Invesco, Northern Trust, and before that Goldman Sachs.

TRS is the 42nd largest pension system in the United States. It serves 439,000 members and has assets under management of US$ 67 billion.
