Mexico President Wants Higher Retiree Benefits

Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wants to boost the benefits retirees in Mexico receive. In an unprecedented move, the president is planning on allowing retirees to enjoy the same salaries they earn while working. It is not clear how this plan would be successfully implemented. Obrador has already taken steps to help retirees but said: “We achieved a reform, but it is incomplete. That is why we are now expanding it.” Mexico’s pension system has assets of over US$ 300 billion, spread over a group of asset managers.
