Some Republicans Calls for Effort to Invoke 25th Amendment to Remove Biden over Mental Competency

The United States is undergoing a historic period of lawsuits and indictments against top-contending presidential candidates, something not seen since the republic’s founding. Institutional investors are watching the political dynamics as the U.S. remains one a key destination of foreign investment capital. As the presidential election season is underway in the United States, some Republicans are calling for U.S. President Biden’s cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office over classified files DOJ probe. The probe claimed he already had “diminished faculties” eight years ago. Biden is 81-years old and has been publicly prone to gaffes since his term started. Just recently, Biden spoke in front of a crowd in Las Vegas on Sunday and said he recently met with François Mitterrand, the French president who has been dead for nearly 30 years (died in 1996). This is an apparent mix up with the current leader of France – French President Emmanuel Macron.

The U.S. Department of Justice released its summary of an investigation into Biden’s mishandling of classified documents. Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott says it is time to remove President Biden from office using the 25th Amendment. This is after the DOJ report that detailed the severity of Biden’s mental decline. U.S. special counsel Robert Hur decided to not prosecute Biden for his handling of classified documents. In the report released on February 8, 2024, it said that Biden’s practices “present serious risks to national security” and added that part of the reason he wouldn’t charge Biden was that the president could portray himself as an “elderly man with a poor memory” who would be sympathetic to a jury. U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia (R) also called on the use the 25th Amendment to remove Biden after the report. Classified documents were discovered at Biden’s Wilmington home and investigators also discovered classified documents stored at his Washington, D.C. office.

Kamala Harris is the current Vice President of the United States.

“Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” the report said, but added that the evidence “does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”

“That does not describe someone who should be the Commander in Chief of our armed forces and the defender of American freedoms,” Senator Scott wrote on X in reaction to the report. “It’s time for his cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment.”
