GPIF Considering Expanding Investment Portfolio

Japan’s GPIF is gathering data on assets that are not traditional for it, with many suggesting bitcoin could be of interest. Since GPIF is looking to diversify into new investment classes, it is looking for “basic information” on new paths. GPIF already has allocations for domestic bonds, foreign bonds, equities, real estate, infrastructure, and private equity. However, most real assets and bitcoin would be a departure for GPIF.

The reason commentators suggest GPIF will buy bitcoin is because a proposed law in Japan would pave the way for such investment, which has never been approved at a government level before.
