Ontario Teachers Forms VC and Growth Equity Unit

Like its Canadian peers such as OMERS, the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) is forming a new investment unit to tackle late-stage venture capital and growth equity investments in companies that develop new industries and can disrupt incumbents. Heading the new group is Olivia Steedman, an executive in the infrastructure and natural resources group at OTPP. The new unit is called the Teachers’ Innovation Platform and will be open to invest in all parts of the globe.
In a press release, Steedman states, “This is a time of unprecedented change in multiple areas including computing, materials science, robotics and medicine.”
