Vietnam Aims to Have More SOEs Open to Private Markets by the End of 2020

By the end of 2020, the Vietnamese government plans to sell equity shares in 93 state-owned enterprises, which include Vietnam National Coal & Mineral Industries Holding Corporation, Mobifone Corporation, Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (AgriBank), Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Group, Vietnam Northern Food and Minerals Co. Ltd., and Vietnam National Coal & Mineral Industries Holding.

Vietnam’s Steering Committee for Enterprise Renewal and Development released a report detailing that Vietnam’s privatization efforts are behind schedule. Privatization reports are sent to Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, and the Steering Committee for Enterprise Innovation and Development for synthesis before submission to country’s prime minister. The Vietnamese government plans to hold at least 50% to under 65% of charter capital in 62 other state-owned enterprises.
