Google Cloud Losing Ground to Amazon over Healthcare Records Business

Epic Systems Corporation and Cerner are the two largest electronic healthcare records companies in the United States for hospitals and health systems. Both companies have decided to pass on the Google Cloud, a product of Google (Alphabet). Both of these companies sells its products to these large hospital groups and once a system is sold, it becomes a core business component of a hospital’s information system.

Cerner went with Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the Google Cloud. Cerner seeks to move HealtheIntent to AWS during the first half of 2020.

Epic Systems is not pursuing further integration with Google Cloud, opting for Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services. Epic Systems reports storing medical records of more than 250 million people.

The Wall Street Journal broke news that major healthcare system, St. Louis-based Ascension worked on a program called Project Nightingale with Google in 2018 to permit Google to collect personal health information on millions of patients. Google has been known to manipulate its search algorithm to favor certain viewpoints.
