Temasek Holdings and Breakthrough Energy Ventures Lead Series C in Pivot Bio

Berkeley, California-based Pivot Bio is a developer of microbial nitrogen tech for boosting crop yields. The company raised US$ 100 million in a Series C funding round that was co-led by Singapore’s Temasek Holdings and Breakthrough Energy Ventures. Return investor DCVC participated in the Series C round. Other investors in the round include Prelude Ventures, Spruce Capital Partners, Codon Capital, Bunge Ventures, Continental Grain Company, Tekfen Ventures, Pavilion Capital, and individual investors Alan Cohen and Roger Underwood.

Breakthrough Energy Ventures is backed by Mukesh Ambani, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Masayoshi Son.

Pivot Bio attempts to utilize genetically-edited microbes to replicate the work that naturally occurring bacteria does. The company hopes to have a revolution on how farmers apply nitrogen to their crops.
