Ontario Teachers’ to Lead Funding Round in Pony.ai

Fremont, California-based Pony.ai is a self-driving car startup with offices in California and China. Pony.ai raised US$ 267 million in the initial phase of its latest funding round at US$ 5.3 billion valuation. The funding was led by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board’s Teachers’ Innovation Platform (OTPP), Pony.ai said in a statement.
Pony.ai is also backed by Toyota Motor Corporation, Sequoia Capital China, state-owned automaker FAW Group, and Beijing Kunlun Tech Co. Pony.ai tests its vehicles in Fremont, Irvine, and in Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Beijing.
