Barings CEO and Chairman Tom Finke Dashes to Invesco

Barings LLC, which is owned by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), was formed by the combination of a group of asset management companies. Barings has around US$ 354 billion in assets under management at September 30, 2020.

The avid golfer Thomas (Tom) M. Finke, the Chairman and CEO of Barings, has exited from his role since 2016. Before forming Barings, Finke was the CEO of Babson Capital (a component of Barings now) and served as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer for MassMutual from 2008 to 2011. Earlier in his career, Finke worked at First Union, Bear Stearns, Mellon Bank, and Westpac.

Michael (Mike) Freno was named President of Barings in February 2020. Freno is now appointed as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Barings LLC (on November 5, 2020).

On November 5, 2020, Tom Finke plans to be nominated to Invesco’s Board on December 1, 2020. Activist investor Trian Partners earlier had taken a position in Invesco. Trian Partners beneficially owns approximately 9.9% of Invesco’s outstanding common stock. Invesco also is adding Nelson Peltz and Ed Garden of Trian Partners.
