Large US Public Pensions New Commitments to Hedge Funds Dropped in 2020

According to SWFI data, year-to-date, large U.S. public pension plans committed around US$ 7.5 billion to hedge funds (externally-managed) in 2020 versus US$ 11.6 billion in new commitments from 2019.

Some popular strategies for 2020 include global macro like the Kirkoswald Global Macro Fund, multi-strategy funds, and liquid absolute return strategies for U.S. public pensions, according to SWFI fund transaction data.

SWFI ran a screen on large U.S. public pension funds investing in hedge funds. In addition, SWFI attempts to properly classify hedge funds based on their activities, which leads to some funds being considered other investment types.
