Some Legislators Want Mumtalakat to Increase its Government Contribution

Some Bahrain legislators are asking for the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company to double its contribution to the state budget. The demanded amount is an increase of 20 million Bahrain dinar, which would be divided equally for this year and the next.
Bahrain is also planning to sell U.S. dollar denominated bonds to help plug the fiscal deficit. Bahrain’s budget deficit has almost doubled in the first half of 2020, as a result the COVID-19 pandemic and low crude oil prices.
