Who are the Influencers of WallStreetBets?

Posted on 01/30/2021

r/wallstreetbets, also known as WallStreetBets or WSB, is a subreddit where participants discuss stock and option trading. There are now 7 million members (call themselves degenerates) on the forum now. Users also frequently use slang such as “stonks” for stocks, “tendies” for gains or profits, “gay bears” for those who expect a stock to decline, for stock shorters, or as a general insult, “DD” for analysis of potential trades (from “due diligence”), “bagholder” for one whose position has severely dropped in value, and “diamond hands” or “paper hands” for when a trader holds their stocks or trades early, respectively. WallStreetBets exploded into the mainstream. Many celebrated WallStreetBets’ war on GameStop short-sellers as a populist campaign against Wall Street hedge funds. WallStreetBets has long described itself as “4chan with a Bloomberg terminal.”

Chamath Palihapitiya, CEO of Social Capital, tweeted on January 30, 2021 at 10:16 AM, “r/wallstreetbets is now the largest hedge fund in the world.

Excepts it’s completely decentralized and entirely democratic.”
