1. Switzerland government declines to approve Astrazeneca COVID vaccine. Moderna amends COVID vaccine supply agreement with Switzerland to include additional 6 million doses.

2. GameStop Corporation (ticker: GME) hires Matt Francis as chief technology officer.

3. CDC estimates 34,200 deaths from influenza for the 2018-2019 year vs., 21,909 deaths for the 2019-2020 year, and an estimated 61,000 deaths for the 2017-2018 year.

4. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announces the registration of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus by the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risk of Mexico (COFEPRIS). Mexico has become the first country of North America to approve Sputnik V and the 17th country in the world. Sputnik V had been approved earlier in Russia, Belarus, Argentina, Bolivia, Serbia, Algeria, Palestine, Venezuela, Paraguay, Turkmenistan, Hungary, UAE, Iran, Republic of Guinea, Tunisia, and Armenia. Efficacy of Sputnik V is 91.6% as confirmed by the data published in The Lancet, one of the world’s oldest and most respected medical journals.

5. Another U.S. COVID relief bill is in the works.

6. The former president of the European Central Bank Mario Draghi met Italy’s president, Sergio Mattarella, at lunchtime on Wednesday. Mario Draghi was asked to be the new Italian prime minister.
