CIA Backs 3D Sensing Company Visionary Machines

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), through In-Q-Tel (IQT International Australia), is participating in an investment round in Visionary Machines, an Australian IT startup. The round was worth A$ 7.5 million and was led by venture capital fund Folklore Ventures. Our Innovation Fund made a co-investment in Visionary Machines. IQT International Australia is the Australian venture unit of In-Q-Tel.
Other investors in the round include Significant Capital Ventures and Thorney Investment Group. Founded in 2019 by Dr. Rhys Newman and Dr. Samson Lee, Visionary Machines is developing revolutionary 3D sensing solutions using camera arrays that can achieve vision better than that of humans, allowing machines to “see”.
