Samruk-Kazyna and Qatar SWF Explored Opportunities at Qatar Meeting

Disclosed on August 23, 2021, Samruk-Kazyna JSC held a meeting of the Kazakh – Qatari Business Council in Qatar.
According to the press release, “The event was attended by representatives of government, CEOs of major Kazakh and Qatari companies, government agencies and financing institutions.
The Kazakh delegation was led by the First Deputy Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov. In addressing the Business Council, he noted the importance of private sector engagement for expand and deepen relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar.”
Three areas of interest:
First, investment cooperation with the Qatar Investment Authority Fund on energy, infrastructure, agriculture, commercial real estates and privatization;
Secondly, multilateral cooperation in achieving major projects for mining, industry and infrastructure, construction, tourism and agro-technology;
Thirdly, cooperation on socially relevant issues – culture, education, medicine and health care.
At the moment, Qatar entities are backing three projects in the amount of US$ 125 million in Kazakhstan. There is construction of perinatal care center in Almaty with the participation Qatar Development Bank. There is a project to upgrade the infrastructure of the Combat Training Centre with the participation Barzan Holdings. Al Rayan Investment established a fintech bank in AIFC.
