Coinbase Files Application to Trade Cryptocurrency Futures

Like any currency, asset, or security, derivatives trading is big business. Coinbase has filed with the National Futures Association to become a registered futures commission merchant. The National Futures Association is the self-regulatory organization for the U.S. derivatives industry. Coinbase will likely move beyond spot trading and into derivatives.
Competition
Deribit is a bitcoin future and options exchange. However, U.S. residents cannot use Deribit’s trading services due to regulatory disagreements between the exchange and authorities of the United States.
