1. Social media giant Facebook seeks to create 10,000 jobs in the European Union over the next five years in a push to build a digital world known as the “metaverse.”

2. China’s National Bureau of Statistics said gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 4.9% in the third quarter from a year ago. China’s industrial production rose by 3.1% in September 2021.

3. People’s Bank of China Governor Yi Gang informed the public that via a virtual meeting of the Group of 30 on October 17, 2021, “Overall, we can contain the Evergrande risk.”

4. A U.S. warship and a Canadian warship sailed through the Taiwan strait last week. The Chinese military says these warships seriously jeopardize peace and stability.

China tested a new space capability with a hypersonic missile. Beijing launched the nuclear-capable missile in August 2021. The missile circled the Earth at low orbit before speeding towards its target. Hypersonic missiles can deliver nuclear weapons and can fly at more than five times the speed of sound.

5. Anthony Fauci, who serves as Chief Medical Advisor to the President, said those who received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID mRNA vaccine should have been given two shots from the beginning. CDC data confirms the J&J shot is the worst-performing COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S. versus the Pfizer and Moderna shots.

6. U.K. MP Sir David Amess (aged 69) was murdered by 25-year-old Ali Harbi Ali, according to Whitehall officials. Ali Harbi Ali, a U.K. national of Somali origin, is being held under the Terrorism Act. Ali Harbi Ali’s father is Harbi Ali Kullane who was previously an adviser to Somalia’s prime minister. David Amess, who had been a Conservative MP since 1983, was stabbed multiple times during a regular Friday meeting (October 15, 2021) with his Southend West constituents at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson calls Sir David one of the “kindest, nicest, most gentle people in politics”.

7. The European Central Bank is exploring raising its limit on purchases of EU-issued bonds.

8. Imperium Blue exits its position in Idaho’s Tamarack Resort by selling its ownership to MMG Equity Partners. MMG Equity Partners and Imperium Blue bought the resort in 2018. Imperium Blue is a joint venture between The Imperium Companies and Blue River Family Office Partners.
