Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Investment Company is a sovereign wealth investor managing a global portfolio of assets valued at US$ 243 billion. Mubadala Investment Company announced the formal commencement of operations of Mubadala Capital as a wholly-owned asset management subsidiary within Mubadala’s Disruptive Investments portfolio. Established in 2011, Mubadala Capital has grown significantly in scale over the past decade, and manages over US$ 15 billion of assets, including over US$ 9 billion in third-party capital vehicles on behalf of over 50 institutional investors.

Mubadala Capital is headquartered in Abu Dhabi and has offices in New York, London, San Francisco, and Rio de Janeiro, comprises four integrated businesses – private equity, public equities, venture capital, and a Brazil focused business. While Mubadala Capital is now operating as an asset, it remains fully owned by Mubadala, enabling it to leverage the scale and network of its sovereign parent, while enhancing its focus on delivering long-term value for its investors and partners. Mubadala Capital currently manages three private equity funds, two early-stage venture funds, a long-biased public equities fund and two Brazil special opportunities funds, with its combined holdings encompassing a global portfolio of assets across a wide range of sectors and geographies.

Mubadala Capital hired Lee Wanie, CFA, to lead distribution efforts on a global basis across its Private Equity, Public Equities, Venture Capital and its Brazil focused investment business. Before joining Mubadala Capital, Wanie was Managing Director, Head of U.S. Distribution & Consultant Relations at BMO Global Asset Management (GAM). Prior to joining BMO GAM in 2019, he was a Managing Director in BlackRock’s Institutional Client Business, responsible for both Canadian and Institutional middle market clients. Wanie began his institutional asset management career at Barclays Global Investors in 1999.

Mubadala Capital’s Public Equities business was established in 2011 and manages a long-biased, concentrated portfolio of global public equities. In addition, the Public Equities team also manages certain positions on behalf of Mubadala. Mubadala Capital’s Private Equity business makes investments across the capital structure, largely in private securities on a direct basis with the aim of building portfolios that generate superior risk-adjusted returns on behalf of its investors. Mubadala Capital’s Credit team has been investing since 2009, principally in direct lending opportunities across a variety of industries in North America and Europe. The Credit team has developed a track record in commercial lending by investing directly across different asset classes, initially through Mubadala GE Capital, a joint venture with GE Capital. Following Mubadala’s successful exit from the joint venture, the Credit team, operating as part of the Mubadala Capital platform, pursues a similar strategy with a broad group of origination partners.
