A consortium made up of NZ Super Fund (New Zealand Superannuation Fund), Pioneer Capital, and Comprador Holdings has bought into a major New Zealand fertility treatment provider called Fertility Associates Limited. Founded in 1987 by Dr Freddie Graham and Dr Richard Fisher, Fertility Associates is a provider of reproductive support, diagnostic services, and fertility treatments in New Zealand and Malaysia. To date, Fertility Associates claims it has helped bring 25,000 babies into the world in New Zealand and 5,000 babies in Malaysia.

Fisher and Graham introduced IVF treatments to New Zealand.

The consortium has acquired approximately 70% of the business, with the balance continuing to be owned by Fertility Associates’ doctors and management team.

Pioneer Capital’s investment comes from its fourth private equity fund, in which NZ Super Fund is also invested, that invests in high growth, mid-market New Zealand businesses seeking international growth. Comprador Holdings (via its partner investment company White Cloud Capital) has extensive experience in the fertility sector from a previous investment in building the leading U.K./E.U. fertility business, The Fertility Partnership.
