U.S. President Biden Rules Out U.S. Troops to Fight in Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden has ruled out officially sending U.S. troops to fight in Ukraine. Ukraine is not a member of the military alliance of NATO. Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want Ukraine to join NATO, as it would have Western countries right on its doorstep. The U.S. government has already supplied Ukraine with funds and American-made weapons. From 2014 to current, the U.S. has committed more than US$ 2.7 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, according to the Pentagon. This includes a US$ 200 million package in December 2021 comprising equipment like Javelin and other anti-armor systems, grenade launchers, large quantities of artillery, mortars and small-arms ammunition. The Javelin was developed and produced for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps by the Javelin Joint Venture between Lockheed Martin Corporation in Orlando, Florida and Raytheon Technologies Corporation in Tucson, Arizona.

With 150,000 troops on the three sides of Ukraine, the Russian army could easily overtake the Ukrainian military.

The U.S. government believes a Russian invasion of Ukraine is a real possibility.

On February 12, 2022, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly requested evidence to support Western media reports that Russia was planning to attack on February 16, 2022. Zelensky claimed that “everything is under control” and that diplomacy was the best solution to the issue at hand.
