SAY AHHHHH: Mubadala Buys a Stake in Dental Care Alliance

Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Investment Company is buying a stake in Sarasota, Florida-based Dental Care Alliance from Harvest Partners, LP. Formed in 1991, Dental Care Alliance is one of the largest multi-branded dental support organizations in the U.S. Dental Care Alliance supports a network of around 360 practices across 21 states in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Southeast of the U.S. DCA affiliated practices provide a full suite of dental services, including general dentistry, hygiene, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery.

In July 2015, Harvest Partners acquired Dental Care Alliance in partnership with management from Quad-C Management, a middle market private equity firm. To fund the acquisition, Harvest arranged the debt financing, which included a senior credit facility and mezzanine debt, and preferred equity financing.

On June 16, 2021, Harvest Partners agreed to buy a Raleigh, N.C.-based Affordable Care, an operator of dental practices, from Berkshire Partners. On May 14, 2021, KKR’s Heartland Dental announced acquisition of American Dental Partners, Inc., which maintains 278 dental practices in 21 states. Charlesbank acquired MB2 Dental in February 2021, from Sentinel Capital Partners. MB2 Dental operates 275 dental practices in 24 states. New Mountain Capital acquired Benevis (known as – Kool Smiles Dental) in October 2020, during the process of a federal chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding.
