Major U.S. Machinery Giant Caterpillar Leaves Chicago Area for Texas

Posted on 06/14/2022

Caterpillar Inc., a major machinery producer, is leaving the state of Illinois to camp to Texas. Caterpillar is ending its century-long history calling the state of Illinois its home. The company will move its headquarters from Deerfield, Illinois, to Irving, Texas. Caterpillar CEO Jim Umpleby said he believes it’s in the “best strategic interest” of the company to move. More than 12,000 Caterpillar employees remain in the Peoria area.

Caterpillar dropped plans to construct a new world headquarters in Peoria in 2017 when the company instead relocated to suburban Deerfield.
