While most ESG investors have targeted the oil and gas industry, companies in the plastics industry have been getting a “free” pass from mass media and some policymakers. Since the last century, plastics have found their ways into streams, rivers, lakes, and oceans.

Samsara Eco Pty Limited is an Australian plastic recycling startup. Samsara Eco raised A$54 million in Series A funding from Breakthrough Victoria, Singapore’s Temasek Holdings, Assembly Climate Capital, DCVC, INP Capital, and insiders Main Sequence, Woolworths Group, and Clean Energy Finance Corporation. Samsara Eco seeks to use enzymes that can break down plastics into their foundational building blocks, known as monomers.
