2023 could be another tough year for global sovereign wealth funds. In London, Nicolai Tangen, told a Financial Times conference on Wednesday, that global financial markets are likely to remain “difficult” in the time ahead.

In an interview, Tangen said, “I’m not optimistic.” He then added, “And I’m an optimistic man.”

Tangen is the CEO of Norges Bank Investment Management, which oversees Norway Government Pension Fund Global. The sovereign investor oversees more than US$ 1 trillion in assets. The wealth fund is planning for an extended period of low returns in stocks, bonds, and real estate assets. Private markets are also expected to come down eventually. Containing inflation is also a concern for the Norway SWF chief.
