Bridgewater Names Karen Karniol-Tambour Co-CIO

Bridgewater Associates is naming Karen Karniol-Tambour (age 37) as its third co-chief investment officer after billionaire founder Ray Dalio gave up control of the firm. Karniol-Tambour will share the CIO title with Greg Jensen (age 48) and Bob Prince (age 64). The Investment Committee unanimously nominated her to this role and the CEOs accepted their recommendation.
Karen Karniol-Tambour joined Bridgewater as an investment associate on the fixed income team. Just seven years later, she became Head of Investment Research. In 2021, she became Co-CIO for Sustainability, launching with Carsten Stendevad the firm’s first portfolios that incorporate sustainability considerations alongside risk and return. Karen Karniol-Tambourgraduated from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, where she studied under Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman and was awarded the Gale F. Johnson Prize in Public Affairs. Born and raised in Israel, Karen Karniol-Tambour has worked with nonprofit Seeds of Peace since she was a teenager and serves as member of its Global Leadership Council.
