QIA Gets a New Chairman after New Prime Minister is Announced

Qatar’s ruler appointed Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani as the new Chairman of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) – the country’s mega sovereign wealth fund. Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud remains as CEO of QIA. Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani is the Governor of Qatar Central Bank.

Bandar bin Mohammed bin Al-Thani’s predecessor – Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani – was name Qatar’s prime minister by the emir. This is following the resignation of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdelaziz Al-Thani. Sheikh Mohammed served as Qatar’s foreign minister since 2016 and was the public face of Qatar as it managed a three-and-a-half-year blockade by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt. Sheikh Khalid was appointed prime minister in January 2020 after having been head of the Amiri Diwan, the emir’s office.
