Michael Jordan Family Office Dips Into Crypto, Selling Basketball Team

Posted on 04/11/2023

Michael Jordan’s family office announced last month that the six-time NBA champion is in negotiations to sell an additional stake in the Charlotte Hornets to George Plotkin, one of the team’s minority owners. Steve Clifford, coach of the Hornets said he wanted to coach again, and a change in ownership could derail that. However, he accepts the facts: “That’s pro sports,” he suggested. Michael Jordan’s family office is called Jump Management.

Jordan made a move into crypto last year with the funding of Metaplex, an entertainment-focused protocol that helps create and mine NFT’s. Metaplex uses Solana’s “web3” infrastructure. Jordan also took stakes in Mythical Games, Vanilla, Dapper Labs, CLEAR, and Draftkings in the last two years.
