Americans Don’t Trust Leaders

Posted on 05/10/2023

A new Gallup poll finds “Americans lack confidence in a variety of key U.S. leaders on economic matters.” The poll says only 34% to 38% of U.S. adults have a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence in President Joe Biden, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and congressional leaders in both major parties.

Official U.S. inflation numbers fell below 5% for the first time in two years, however, the costs of housing, food, autos, and many other necessities have risen substantially due to inflation and rising interest rates. Wages and hiring are up, but are not keeping pace with the cost of living.

Debate continues on whether or not the U.S. is in a recession. As regional banks are stressed, some to the breaking point, the U.S. Federal Reserve continues to hike rates. It is an especially difficult time to get a handle on the American economy.  Some say the dollar will collapse, as BRICs struggle to arrange an alternative, however, as SWFI has reported, the dollar is not going to be easy to displace. However, life for the average American is becoming more expensive, with lower supplies and fewer options in purchasing, and continued layoffs in high-end fields such as tech. In a sign of the times, news conglomerate CNN calls the economy “broken, to just bizarre.”
