Elizabeth Holmes to Serve Less Than a Decade

Elizabeth Holmes will walk out of prison in 2032, two years earlier than first imagined. The prison system has shared that there are various ways that prisoners can earn an early release, but would not say which conditions Holmes has met. Holmes has been in prison for about six weeks.

Elizabeth Holmes rose to fame with frequent media appearances for a fraudulent blood testing company, Theranos, with a valuation that reached US$ 10 billion. Shareholders included some of the world’s most famous titans, including Rupert Murdoch and The Walton Family of Walmart fame. Holmes was eventually convicted and sentenced to 11 years. Her partner, Ramesh Sunny Balwani, was convicted as she was. Balwani attended UC Berkely and Stanford. He had worked for Microsoft before Theranos.

Despite not having working machines and employees accusing the company of fraud, Elizabeth Holmes was able to secure an all-star board of directors, including: U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz, William Perry, Vietnam war advisor Henry Kissinger, Sen. Sam Nunn, Sen. Bill Frist, Admiral Gary Roughead, General Jim Mattis, Wells Fargo CEO Richard Kovacevich, and Riley P. Bechtel of Bechtel Group.
