Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates Likely Joining BRICS

Despite comments from India that appeared to suggest the opposite, it now seems the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Argentina, Ethiopia and Iran will receive membership in BRICS, with a planned effective date of January 2024. On X, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan wrote: “We look forward to a continued commitment of cooperation for the prosperity, dignity and benefit of all nations and people around the world. The UAE will continue its approach based on supporting global peace, security and development.”
The oil power of UAE and Saudi Arabia is significant. The UAE has an estimated 107 billion barrels of oil. Saudi Arabia is sitting on a proposed 268 billion barrels of oil.
