New Pension Changes Likely In Japan

Posted on 10/06/2023

Japan’s GPIF sets an example for pension funds in the nation and elsewhere, with clear reporting and management discussion and analysis regularly posted as expected. Now some would like to see this level of attentiveness spread. In addition, there is interest in adopting other changes.

Japanese officials are in talks to make several changes to the nation’s pensions. The following three improvements are up for discussion: new rules about disclosure of performance, plans to bring more upcoming talent into the field of pension management, and making a way for smaller companies to offer pensions for their workers.

The changes are being discussed at the direction of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
