Temasek Signs MoU with VSE

Increasingly, Singaporean sovereign investors are becoming more active in Vietnam. Singapore’s GIC Private Limited has participated as a cornerstone investor in a slew of deals. Singapore’s Temasek Holdings signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vietnam Commission for State Capital Management at Enterprises (VSE) to explore investment opportunities in Vietnam.

In a tweet by Temasek, they said, “Here’s to a Pho-nomenal partnership! #TemasekInvests.”

In early February, the Vietnamese government formed a committee to oversee approximately 5,000 trillion VND worth of government enterprises in an effort to enhance some level of privatization. The Committee for State Capital Management at Enterprises will have its own legal status and a bank account at Vietnam’s State Treasury. The complexity of state-owned assets in Vietnam is that many of the shares are held by different ministries.

Crown Court Dismisses Charges on Barclays Qatar Loan Deal

Barclays can breathe some fresh air for now over a high-profile corporate case. In February 2018, the U.K. Serious Fraud Office (SFO) had brought charges against Barclays and Barclays Bank in regard to the capital raising deals made in 2008. The bank could have lost its banking license, if found guilty of the charges. A number of bank executives were personally charged as well.
