Sovereign wealth funds and public pensions slowed down direct real estate transactions in 2019, after a buying binge from 2014. Sovereign wealth funds continue to invest in real estate, but they are accessing the asset class in a myriad of ways. Furthermore, these sovereign investors have tapped the pause button on some high-ticket transactions.

Dissecting the transaction data by country, the United States did not see a major drop in real estate buy transactions compared to the United Kingdom.
